together as we enter a new year

By Rishan, Media Ambassador

As we come to the end of 2025, it is impossible to reflect on our journey without acknowledging how challenging it has been: a year marked by uncertainty and fear, driven by increasingly hostile government policies toward refugees and people seeking asylum.

These policies did not exist in isolation; they were accompanied by protests (and flags) from the far right that heightened tension in our communities and raised serious concerns about safety, particularly for our young people.

Despite this, we were surrounded by a powerful and compassionate community. We saw individuals and groups stand up against racism, speak out against hate and actively show empathy and solidarity. This community response sent a clear message: compassion is stronger than fear and everyone deserves safety, dignity and a sense of belonging. For those who came seeking refuge, this support offered hope when it was most needed.

No matter what, our young people showed incredible strength. They continued to come to class, stayed focused on their learning and supported one another. Their resilience and determination were clear every day, and we were - and are - very proud of them.

At KRAN, we deeply believe in our young people - their strength, their potential and their right to feel safe and valued. This year has reaffirmed our commitment to stand beside them, to support them through adversity and to celebrate their resilience. No matter how difficult the external environment becomes, we will continue to be a place of safety, encouragement and belief in their futures.

As we look ahead to 2026, we carry with us the lessons of this year: that resilience grows in community, that compassion can counter hate and that when we stand together, hope remains possible.
