OUR extraordinary lives
By Rishan, Media Ambassador
As we commemorate International Migrants Day, it is essential to reflect on the stories of courage and hope that define the extraordinary lives of millions of migrants and refugees around the world.
Each person's journey is a testament to the human spirit and determination which transcends borders and adversity. In KRAN, we often share inspirational stories of our young people who have turned this adversity into strength, embodying the resilience that defines the migrant experience (such as adapting to new environments with different cultures and language).
Some examples: our former Youth Ambassador (YA) whose journey to the UK was full of challenges and obstacles. He never lost sight of his dream to complete a degree in business management, which he has achieved. Our current YAs include students in occupational therapy, fine art, and computer science - and I’m in my final year of adult nursing!
International Migrants Day serves as a reminder that migrants and refugees, like all of the above (and more), are not defined by their displacement but by their determination to rebuild their lives. It is a day to acknowledge the strength of those who have faced unimaginable hardships, yet continue to contribute to the society that welcomes them.
This day is an opportunity to recognise the importance of compassion, understanding, and solidarity in addressing the global migration crisis. It is a call to action to create inclusive communities that embrace diversity and offer a helping hand to those seeking refuge and a chance for a better life.
By fostering empathy and understanding, we can work towards a world where every migrant and refugee is treated with dignity and respect, and where their dreams are not just aspirations but achievable realities.
