DJAFAROU’s a class act!

One of our L4L classes in action.

Learning for Life (L4L) is one of the biggest services we offer at KRAN. Here, Djafarou tells us his story as part of our Christmas appeal.

I’m 20 and originally from Niger. I have been working at KRAN as a Trainee Youth Ambassador since March this year. I help with classes as a teaching assistant and at some activities, such as visits and football.

I came to the UK in 2019 and when I moved to Folkestone, my social worker told me about KRAN. I attended Learning for Life classes to learn life skills and about the UK culture, but more importantly, to improve my English. This was one of the main things I wanted to do when I arrived here as I had very little English.

I didn’t know many people and the classes helped me get connected with other young people and I made friends.

KRAN offers so much to young refugees and asylum seekers. It always makes me feel at home and that’s the reason why I like it - and it’s the same for the others. The staff are very friendly and always happy to help us out when we need it. I know many of us would struggle without the help and support.

KRAN’s Early Intervention Caseworker Sarah says of Djafarou: “He is a remarkable young man who has worked so hard to succeed in his education.

“He was a fast learner in the classes and never really needed much advice - but was always happy to ask for it. He has gone on to become one of our Trainee Youth Ambassadors and works really hard at this. I’m very proud of him!”

As well as being our Trainee Youth Ambassador, Djafarou is studying Public Services at Canterbury College and plans to study business at university.

Please help our Learning for Life work to continue by donating to our Christmas campaign. You can do this by clicking the link at the top of the page. Here are some examples of what your money can buy:

£10 = set of exercise books and other stationery for a young person attending L4L classes

£40 = place on an educational visit for a young person

£80 = week of L4L classes for a young person with no other access to education.
