Rights. Equality. Empowerment
By Rishan, Media Ambassador
On International Women’s Day (IWD/Saturday 8 March), we celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of women and girls everywhere. But true celebration means more than just words - it’s about action.
This year’s IWD theme is For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. Here at KRAN, we stand for all women and girls, regardless of background, status or journey. But the fight for rights, equality and empowerment is even more urgent for refugee and migrant women and we see this every day.
Many of our young women have fled conflict, persecution, or hardship in search of safety. Yet, even after finding refuge, they continue to face barriers to education, work and the fight for their rights. Their stories are often unheard, but their courage is undeniable.
The theme reflects the very principles that we believe in when delivering help and support to our young people. KRAN provides a safe space where every woman and girl is valued and heard. Our ESOL migrant women’s class and UASC circle (in Canterbury and Thanet) meet weekly, creating an environment of learning, support, and sisterhood.
This is a space where everyone has the right to share their voice, thoughts and ideas. An equal space that is open for everyone regardless of their background, race or nationality - a place that doesn't have a border. And most importantly, a space for empowerment through encouragement and support.
