making it all worthwhile

Yusuf (centre) at work with some of our young people.

As part of our Christmas appeal, we're sharing some real-life stories about our services. This is from Fawzia, our Youth Engagement Coordinator.

In my role I meet many exceptional young people, including Yusuf - an excellent example of our youth engagement work. This young man - still aged just 18 - has done so much since he first came to us in 2021.

Although he only stayed with KRAN a few months before going to college, he remained engaged with us: he became a Trainee Youth Ambassador, was involved in the Youth Forum (attending almost every meeting), and helped in the Learning for Live classes (of which he had been a student). Yusuf also made an outstanding speech on behalf of young people at KRAN’s 2023 annual meeting.

At the same time, he joined Save the Children’s Young Peacemakers’ Assembly.

Yusuf stood out for his maturity and thoughtfulness. He was consistently considerate and took a balanced view of things, making him wise beyond his years. He was (and still is!) talented and learned to speak excellent English in record time. Yusuf even developed a proper accent and now speaks like a local. His academic achievements have been remarkable.

He is now studying applied science at Midkent College’s Gillingham campus. He will surely go far and do well.

It is young people like Yusuf who make all the work that we do at KRAN feel so worthwhile. I feel privileged to have been able to support him and to have known him.
