national lottery success!

Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £249,000 in National Lottery funding.

The charity, based in Canterbury and Folkestone, will use the money - spread over four years - to assist its work with young unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers.

Razia Shariff, KRAN CEO, says: “We are truly grateful for the support of the National Lottery Community Fund and its players.

“The funding is for our Advocacy and Support services, which offer vital lifelines to our often vulnerable young people. This is through casework support, volunteer mentors, wellbeing activities and youth engagement opportunities, all growing areas of need in these uncertain times.”

The money part funds six members of KRAN’s Advocacy and Support team: Complex Caseworker, Caseworker (Housing and Legal), Early Intervention Caseworker, Mentoring Project Coordinator, New Project Developer and Youth Engagement Coordinator.

It will help them to develop community relationships, providing stronger and more holistic support for KRAN’s young people. It will also help develop the internal monitoring and evaluation process, which in turn will develop impact.

Outcomes of the four-year project include an improvement in the emotional wellbeing of the young people, increased access to training, education and employment opportunities, and increased engagement with the local community.

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest non-statutory community funder in the UK, supporting activities that create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable, and that will strengthen society and improve lives across the UK.

National Lottery players raise more than £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK. Since The National Lottery began in 1994, £47 billion has been raised and more than 670,000 individual grants have been made across the UK - the equivalent of around 240 National Lottery grants in every UK postcode district.
