helping to reignite hope
By Nahid, volunteer mentor
Are you troubled by the treatment of traumatised asylum seekers and the rising authoritarianism that perpetuates division and disinformation? Witnessing these injustices is disheartening, but we can't let despair hold us back. I wanted to take action and be part of the change I wanted to see.
Inaction only fuels hopelessness and accepting cruelty dehumanises us all. We are fundamentally wired to connect with others to foster a sense of belonging and compassion. But to truly make an impact, we need more than donations, petitions and votes. We need face-to-face human connection.
That's where volunteering comes in. By joining organisations like KRAN, you can make a direct, meaningful difference in the lives of young unaccompanied asylum seekers. Becoming a mentor is an opportunity to offer your time, attention and support to someone who needs it most.
As a volunteer mentor, you provide a sense of solidarity by simply being there. You spend time with a young person, listening, talking and helping them with their English skills. It's in these small, compassionate actions that hope is reignited. Together, you navigate the challenges of language, cultural differences, and the complexities of the present and future. It's a chance to share stories, learn from each other, and foster understanding.
Volunteering with KRAN has been a profoundly rewarding experience for me. The organisation's heartfelt team provides the necessary support and training, ensuring you feel confident and equipped to make a difference. Canterbury needs more mentors like you. Getting involved transforms a young person's life and will give you fulfilment and a sense of purpose in the process.
Join KRAN as a volunteer mentor and become a beacon of hope for a young person in need. Together, we can make a significant impact.
