Advocacy and Support Team – Drop In: Advocacy and Support and Activities
Our Drop-In serves as a multi-purpose space for young people requiring personalised, specialised support in a safe and welcoming environment. Drop-In Service comprises of Advice and Advocacy as well as Activities and Workshops for young people at the KRAN Hub in Wincheap. The Drop-In also, more generally provides a social space for young people to attend, to help themselves to tea and coffee, hang out with friends, to develop their computer skills, and more generally to support one another.
Advice & Advocacy Drop-In opening hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1-5pm and no appointment is necessary, though should you wish to meet outside those hours please do contact beforehand to arrange a time. We respond to a plethora of issues by supporting young people with completing forms, advice on housing issues, contacting and mediation with agencies (requiring payment of outstanding bills, etc.), support with applications (jobs, courses, legal etc.), clarifying legal and health documentation, follow up and mediation with support services regarding education, health, housing, signposting to other relevant services, and emotional support.
In response to needs presented by the young people, the Drop-In also provides additional youth activities designed to engage and empower young people with skills and positive coping techniques and support in both education and social development outside of a formal classroom setting. The activities include Football, Creative Art sessions, Drama, Homework Support, Maths, Healthy Relationships, Music and various workshops tailored to increase the young people’s awareness of their rights and entitlements, the asylum process, methods of positive coping. Occasionally we also organise events for the young people so they can feel a part of the local community and share their own traditions with each other. We also run a long standing Women and Toddler Group, which meets every Friday between 10.30 and 12.
