Refugee Youth Ambassador
15 hours per week flexible, 3 year contract, with 6 months probationary period.
NJC Pay Scale New SCP 1 £17,364 pa (equivalent to £9ph) with paid annual holidays.
The Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN) seeks a dedicated and talented young refugee to represent refugee and asylum seeking youth in Kent. You will work as part of a team to complement the skills and expertise of KRAN staff and other Youth Ambassadors to ensure that young refugee and asylum seekers are empowered and have a voice. KRAN works with separated asylum-seeking children and young refugees to help them get a good start in the UK. The Refugee Youth Ambassador role is a critical link between refugee youth, KRAN and key stakeholders in Kent. Based in KRAN’s offices in Canterbury and also Folkestone, the incumbent will work as part of a team to connect with refugees and asylum-seeking youth in Kent through outreach and one-to-one support. They will organise the Youth Forum, engage new members and take action on the priorities and issues identified by reaching out to local Kent organisations. The position will work closely with the KRAN Youth Forum to build the refugee youth agenda and will work to find solutions with them.
The successful applicant will be young and talented, with personal lived experience of being an asylum seeker and refugee, and who has a passion for the challenges that refugee and young people face, and who can solve problems in a positive and constructive way with others. You will be a good communicator in English and at least one of the main refugee languages. You will be a good listener, empathetic, patient and kind. You will respect diversity, be good at working with other people, adaptive and innovative. You will have at least one years’ experience working young people in participation and outreach. Experience with youth activism and action learning would be an advantage. Applicants should apply using the online application. Applications will close at midday on Friday the 9th April 2021.
